science & society in scale
The series of images create an idea of wonder and hope of how science can greatly impact our society(s), as well as how society impacts science. The influence that science and society have on each other interest me because I believe that many problems in society can be solved with innovations in science. On the flip side, science and technology advances have altered ours and other societies. The interdependence of the two concepts are demonstrated in the series images. My interpretation of the first image is that we are so "connected," if there was an outage, would we know what to do? In the second image, I think about my urban students and the daily challenges the face and my drive to ensure them that if we assess our reality, we can alter our future as individuals. The final picture provides a view that we must construct together across the world to overcome adversity. To create the series of images, I used Google Drawing and Pixabay. Drawing is my favorite Google Drive too because formatting is so easy to manipulate. My tips is to try it out and be patient, just like anything when it's new, you need to practice. Pixabay is a website that allows you to use their images copyright and arbitration free. |
i-Video
science & society in tandem
The BIG idea behind this video was the role that science and society play on each other. Often times science and innovation are creating solutions to problems, however, where did the problem stem from? Society is the source of the issue, knowingly doing so or not. Society influences science in many ways but it also provides science with many avenues to discover and develop solutions.
When creating my video, I knew that I wanted to represent how the each component as their own entity but also how they can ride the same bike. The key principles to me when thinking about this relationship are; growth, development, and advances. When I think about growth I think about how nature continuously grows in cycles but I also think about growth when it comes to education and the future the world holds for us. Developments in society are often political or social, whereas in science, theories, innovations, ideas, models, and research is always developing. Lastly, when I think about advances, I think that science makes innovative advances for society, while society advances through education, communities, and government.
I originally couldn't find any videos that were fitting my vision using Creative Commons, so I created a video using Scribe (software for whiteboard drawing video). Using scribe helped me to map out my vision and goal of the video. In order to create this video with YouTube Editor, I watched a tutorial on how to use it. Then I found two videos that I spliced together with transitions and added some music, viola!
